BAFES has completed research project BAFES-R-002, Sacred Landscape of Lithuania.
The study compared thirty places and landscape complexes using medieval documents, archaeology, place-names, folklore and later religious traditions. It confirms that several concrete medieval sacred landscapes are genuinely documented while also showing where later reconstruction goes beyond the surviving evidence.
A separate public BAFES publication or PDF based on the study has not yet been released. It will be announced separately when it is actually ready.
