About BAFES

The Baltic Association for Folklore and Esoteric Studies (BAFES) is an independent research association based in Lithuania.

BAFES studies folklore, vernacular belief, dream traditions, the history of magic and Western esotericism, with particular attention to Lithuania and the wider Baltic region.

What we do

We develop research programmes, support defined research projects, publish research papers and reports, and build digital resources for future scholarship.

Our approach is non-confessional: beliefs and practices are treated as subjects of historical, cultural and interdisciplinary research.
